Summer School 2020-21 Round table held on 24th August 2021

The Summer School 2020-21 was designed as a digital masterclass with eminent architects and design thinkers, from India and abroad. The aim was to nurture creative and intellectual independence to help students advance authentically inspired design and research. Students immersed in exploring, experimenting, designing and creative thinking, through a series of online sessions under two themes: Theoretical Thinking and Sustainability.

Summer School 2020-21 Theoretical Thinking Master Class by Ar. Kevin Mark Low

The summer school titled "Theoretical Thinking Master Class" by Ar. Kevin Mark Low was conducted from 20th to 24th August 2021 in online mode. It was facilitated by Ar. Nikhil Shah, Ar. Jacob Thomas, Mr. Anil Devadiga and Ar. Poonam Balur.

Kevin Mark Low emphasizes on the importance of critically engaging with the greatest works of architecture, in order to understand their functionality rather than just their aesthetic qualities. Summer School 2020-21 Drawing (Out) a place - Masterclass by Shubhra Raje

The goal of the workshop was to expand conventional understanding of buildings and their components, by altering associations with them through the way one engages drawings. Through this process, one will look at questions as students and practitioners but are unable or unwilling to engage with - Where do ideas come from? What does it mean to be creative? What is the act of design? And where does an architectural project reside?

Over the last few years since its inception, the attempt of the NIA summer school has been to bring in resources from diverse design domains and nurture creative learning. NATA Power-Prep Workshop 2021

Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA) in collaboration with Design Quotient Labs (DQ Labs) hosted a power-prep online workshop to resolve any last minute queries of the aspiring architects concerning the upcoming NATA exams.

Ar. Nikhil Shah from NIA coordinated with the resource persons from DQ labs to conduct the counselling and mentoring session on July 9, 2021 from 4 PM to 6 PM. The workshop received 150 registrations from interested candidates and was successfully conducted for students hailing from the country and abroad. The summer school titled "Sustainability Master Class" by Architect Chitra Vishwanath was conducted from 7th to 12th August 2021 in online mode. The topic focussed on was 'City, Play and Nature'. The sessions aimed at developing a deeper understanding about the physical environment and the play that happens in the built form. Summer School 2020-21 | Creative Writing Workshop by Mr. Waseem Mushtaq

On the first day of the workshop, Mr. Waseem Mushtaq introduced the topic 'Creative Writing' and how it gives endless freedom to explore writing. He also explained how it differs from other types of writing. He also conducted a fun writing exercise about creating captions for images. The second day of the workshop began with reviewing and advising improvements to the 'Short Story' assignment given to the students. Navya R wins Jury Commendation award - Transparence

Ms. Navya R, an alumnus who passed out in the year 2020, from Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA), took part and won the Jury Commendation Award in the Transparence 15.0 South Interface. The project submitted by Ms. Navya to Transparence was the final year Capstone project completed by her.

News from NIA | Human - Nature interaction

A design build workshop was conducted by Architect Sjoerd Krijnen for the final year students of NIA. The weeklong workshop held between 2nd and 8th March 2020, was along the lines of "Animalesque", a research and teaching program initiated by the Architectural Association School of Architecture in collaboration with Technische University Berlin.
Ar. Sjoerd, a part of the core team of Animalesque, flew in from Berlin for the workshop.
