Library Rules and Regulations



1. All the students are expected to do the log book entry along with details while

entering the library

2. Issue and return counter will be opened from 9.30 am to 4.30pm.

3. While entering the library, readers should leave their personal belongings, in the lockers outside which is for this purpose. However, they can carry loose papers and writing materials. Bags, briefcases, handbags, parcels, aprons, umbrellas, personal books and other articles are not allowed to bring inside the library.

4. Library staff shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings of the library users.

5. Strict silence should be maintained in the library.

6. No photography/photocopying of pages of books or journals are allowed. However, in exceptional cases librarian can photocopy and issue to students on payment.

7. All books/journals and other library materials are to be used with care.

8. No user shall deface the library books by underlining or scribbling notes/ tearing pages etc.

9. Smoking, eating, drinking (except water), sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.

10. Mobiles phones are to be switched off or to be kept on silent mode in the library.

11. No group discussions are permitted in the library. In case of a group assignment students can issue the book and utilize discussion hall outside the library for the same.



For book issuing:

1. Students are given reference card and borrower's card to borrow the books.

2. In the event of loss of library card the borrowers should bring to the notice of the librarian. Duplicate card will be issued on payment of Rs.100/-

3. Membership card is non-transferable. Students must not lend their library card to any other student to borrow books from the library. Library facilities will be withdrawn for students misusing cards.

4. Students should be present physically to borrow the books.

5. All the students who want to return the books issued on their names are advised to wait until the books are shown as cancelled against their names.

6. Books shall be issued to borrowers for 7days

7. Books may be renewed every 7 days (1 week) and renewal can be done once by a single reader.

9. Borrowers shall be held responsible for any loss/damage to the book while in his/her possession.

10. Borrowers should return the books on or before the due date. Fine per day will be charged as per the rules for books not returned on time. In order to prevent students from keeping library books with them beyond due date, the fine charged will be as follows: make sure you get a receipt for the amount paid as fine.

11. If any books are lost, inform immediately to librarian.

12. User shall be liable to replace or repay the double the cost of book or Rs/-250 (whichever is more) in the event of loss or any damage of the book.

13. Lending facility for reference books, journals, and rare collections are not entertained.

15. On request, photocopy (ies) of the document(s) available in the library can be taken subject to copyright restrictions.

16. Underlining, marking, folding of pages in the book etc. Are strictly prohibited.

17. Books, journals, etc. Taken from the shelves for reading should not be left on the tables after use.

18. Maximum of two books will be issued at a time to one student.

19. Reference material should not be taken outside the library.

20. Any overdue item not returned after the final reminder letter has been sent shall be considered as lost. The cost of replacing the item will be notified to the student.

21. When books are issued, students should check the pages of the issued books and if pages are found missing, they should report the same to the librarian before leaving the counter. On returning the books, if pages are found missing, then the last borrower of the book shall be held accountable for the missing pages and shall accordingly be fined.

22. Students must settle any outstanding fines and payments at the end of each year. Failure to comply with the procedure will result in the borrowing privileges being suspended in the following year.

Library Membership

  • All the Bonafide Students and Staff members ofNIA are eligiblefor membership and use the services of Library & Information Centre.

  • The Library is primarily for the use of Faculty, Research Scholars, Students, and Non-Teaching employees of the Institute.

  • On special request, outsiders (Students, Faculty, Research scholars of other Colleges) are also permitted for a shorter period for research with written permission from the Librarian on the basis of a letter from the concerned head of the Institute.

  • The privilege of borrowing books from the library is restricted to NIA Staff & Studentsonly.

  • An overdue chargewill be collected for returning the books after the due date.

  • Reference Section: 10 : 00 am to 04 : 00 pm

  • On Saturdays: 09: 00 am to 01 : 00 pm
